While most of us enjoy having the kid’s home over Easter break, it can get difficult at times. This is especially true if you are hosting Easter brunch, lunch or dinner in your home. It is such a great opportunity to get creative with spring decorations, and to lay a creative table. Yet, if you have unoccupied children, cooking, setting the table, and decorating can be an even bigger chore than if you were solo. The trick here is to get the kids involved where possible.

This year have yours assist in creating the perfect table centrepiece. The one I have in mind will get them out of the house, into the fresh air, and out of your hair. Their mission, should they choose to accept it is to collect twigs in order to make birds’ nest candleholders and decorative containers to house the Easter eggs and candy inside. Other materials to be acquired can include feathers, wool, and clay, moss, rocks, raffia, shells and small flowers.

Allow children who are old enough to put the nests together after showing them images of bird’s nests. Or if you don’t have any of those handy, or the time/resources to find any, do a sample model of your own. No pressure, it’s a birds’ nest after all, so no perfection necessary. And try to remember it is meant not only to be a diversion for your little brood, but this Easter project is also supposed to be a bit of memorable fun between you too.

After the kids have gathered the materials they wish to use, set them up for a few hours. In order for that to happen, make sure you prompt them to collect plenty of twigs. Let them know that the best of the bunch will take the very prestigious position of middle of the dinning table, where candles will then be nestled. The others will not be wasted, for if they are not used to display the coloured eggs you made together, they can hold the very valuable candy for them and guests to enjoy over the course of the joyous day.

Should you be extremely successful, and the children stick with the project till there are tons of these little baskets, no worries. Let them put some in their own rooms to have all to themselves. Hint, any that are particularly weak, or are least appealing can find a nice home in those rooms. They’ll never be the wiser, and you will have been given some time to focus on stuff that needs to get done.

One of the great trends of the upcoming spring season is mixing prints. Of all the prints, it is the combination of floral patterns that is at the pinnacle of this style. Thus, as we start to peak out from behind our shutters, throw windows open and venture into our outdoor spaces this should remain at the forefront of our minds. For once, there is something going on in the minds of fashion designers that works perfectly in the garden.

As so many of us are bored with the same old stuff available for outdoor living, the timing is great. The gingham print tablecloths and napkins can remain in the cabinet. The faded striped plastic plates with matchy matchy striped plastic glasses can be passed on to a neighbour, or donation centre. For those of us who plan to spend as much of our warm weather months out in the open, we can do it with pizzazz.

Take a thumb through any fashion magazine and you will see this full on phenomenon. Then, start to collect any platters, mugs, and even serving pieces with floral designs. If you are smart about it, none of this will cost you very much, but all of it put together will make for a totally new, and invigorating garden area. It will inspire you to invite friends and family over more often, and to have casual impromptu meals and drinks amongst the real flowers.

Now we can really get excited about spring. Pass the news on, this is something to share, not keep under your hat. This is one instance where the more people involved make it a merrier experience.

Property prices in the UK are considered to be a lot more affordable compared to the prices of similar properties in many other parts of the world. Perhaps it is precisely due to this reason that the last few years have witnessed a rising demand for new properties in the country. In case you are looking for new homes for sale in this part of the world, then your search will not be long. Most of the people who wish to buy brand new homes in the country are however normally faced with a number of obstacles that tend to make the process of purchasing the house more complicated than it needs to be. Some of these factors include;

Insufficient information

Most people looking for brand new homes to buy within the country are often faced with the problem of lack of sufficient information regarding the new homes for sale. For instance, because a prospective property buyer does not know about the existence of villas in a given part of the country, he or she may be forced to settle for something less pleasant in another part of the country. Fortunately, there is a way around this problem. The best way to avoid this obstacle is to consult widely and do a lot of researching in an effort to find out about all or most of the new homes for sale in the region. This kind of information can be found in various property directories dedicated to this purpose. In addition, a good real estate agent should be in a position to provide you with enough information concerning the availability of brand new homes.

Property regulations

There are a number of laws and regulations that govern the trade in real estate property for different countries in the UK. Every buyer is expected to fulfil the requirements of all these laws and regulations before the purchase of the home becomes legal. However, most of the prospective property buyers are not conversant with the specific regulations that they are supposed to satisfy, thus making the entire process of purchasing brand new homes a lot more complicated. This problem is even more real for first time buyers or non- residents of the country. The most plausible solution to the problem above is to seek the assistance of real estate property agents operating within the country. Every property agent worth his or her salt should be familiar with all the relevant laws and regulations that govern property trade within the country and, as such, will prove invaluable in helping you manoeuvre the ropes.

Price disparities

The prices of new homes for sale are prone to fluctuations. Even though most of the time this change is positive, sometimes property values may actually fall, meaning that the value of your brand new home falls far below what you paid for it. In the event that you intend to resell the house at a later date, this could prove to be a major setback since the money spent in buying the house may not be fully recovered from the sale.

I have been looking for new homes and have recently been looking into where to relocate to. I am looking at new homes in Scotland near to Edinburgh which is where my company is located. I am delighted to find that new homes have a lot more to offer than older properties. I am also looking at new homes in Birmingham as my company has offices there where I can also work from, so I am spending all of my spare time viewing properties in both locations.

I have looked at both older properties and new properties, and I have found generally that newer homes have a light and airy feel to them because they are designed well. Most of the new homes have large windows and are open-plan to give the feeling of spacious living. Rooms are well proportioned and some of the homes I have been looking at also have en-suite bathrooms as well as a family bathroom. Another great thing about new homes is that they are well insulated with complete wall and roof insulation and the latest economic heating systems. Some apartment blocks have a communal heating and power system installed that are more energy efficient than conventional systems and reduce costs and the carbon footprint by generating electricity when the heating is switched on.

The other good thing about new homes is the quality of the interior finishes and fittings. When viewing older properties, I have seen too many bodged and bad DIY jobs where the finishing is very poor and in some cases unfinished. You are also stuck with a kitchen and bathroom that you may not like or isn’t to your taste. However, the tiling, flooring, paintwork, bathroom and kitchen installations and finishing in new homes are to a very high standard. All of the kitchen units and bathroom suites are brand new and have never been used. Some home builders are also offering the latest integrated kitchen appliances included in the price.

The other great thing about new homes is the warranty. The home builder who has built the new home is responsible for completing the property to the National House-Building Council’s (NHBC) standards. If there are defects on the property, it should be covered by the NHBC warranty, but remember to check the small print.

When planning a evening with friends at your home you probably on occasion scramble for something to use as the centrepiece for your dinner table. It may just be a night consisting of dinner and a movie, but you still want to decorate the table to make it a bit special. Well, chances are you have a number of vessels to your name that would create a magnificent feature for the middle of your table. Come on think about it, all those well preserved silver and pewter bowls, goblets, and other “good” pieces that you house in a specially allocated cabinet.

Some of these items may be family heirlooms, or just things you have acquired over time, but you consider to be too fancy, or precious for everyday use. Well, a night of entertaining is a great time to pull them out and put them to decorative use. If you use a silver pitcher for the base of a floral arrangement, you won’t even need to go through the hassle of polishing it afterwards, as it will have only held water. And what a presentation they will make, the elegant holder paired with seasonal flowers is just the thing to show your guests they are special, and to relieve you of all that guilt for not using your “good” pieces often enough.

For years I have been trying to get that mix and match bedding down pat. I guess it was back in the early nineties when I fell in love with the way designer Ralph Lauren criss crossed his patterned, and solid bedding pieces to create inviting cloth islands for sleep. It was the way he masterfully intermingled florals with gingham, and checks with animal prints that absolutely had me spellbound.

What’s more was that he made it look so darn easy to achieve. Alas, without wanting to spring for his rather pricey linens in every bedroom in the homes I have since lived in, I set out to replicate this style. What I ended up with was more reminiscent of a table at a garage sale the first go round, and something simply gone wrong on the second. Needless to say there were multiple returns to the local shops, and a great deal of frustration on my behalf.

But, I persevered and ultimately came up with the following recipe for getting the look I love. The equation consists of this: pick on tone from the central pattern of your choice (I find it best to have that as the comforter or duvet cover) and ensure that all of the other articles from the pillow cases to the sheets have it also. The last touch is to place a blanket at the foot of the bed in that precise tone to unify the set.

Large household items such as couches can cause great amounts of stress to those trying to determine which to buy. I often hear people say that they want something that is comfortable, stylish, and will not be dated in the next couple of years. While the list is a common one, many still find this search to be a painful one. To avoid it becoming that, there are tips to follow that will safeguard you from settling upon something that only partially meets your sofa wishlist.

Here are a few things to look for if you are seeking the above things in a new sofa. Tufted and cushionless can be a combination in this area, just make sure it is deep enough to be comfortable. The lack of stylized cushions keeps such a piece of furniture from being to trendy, but still sleek enough to be fashionable. If you can locate that, and find no fuss arms and feet, then you are in business, and you should just stop the search. No fuss meaning not elaborate, super sized, or too detailed.

Now that Halloween has come and gone, many of us have at least one or two uncarved pumpkins leftover. You could easily leave them lying about as Autumn decorations, or you could use one for something entirely unexpected. We here at Cover Home absolutle love the unexpected when it comes to repurposing objects, so this is one of our new favourite crafty uses.

Take that extra pumpkin and turn it into a wine cooler for your next cocktail or dinner party. All it takes is removing the top one third of the pumpkin completely, and shucking out the stringy pulp and seeds. In our case, we get the kids to do it, they just love the messiness of it. Then they separate and wash the seeds so we can bake them for a nutritious snack item.

It is best to line the inside prior to inserting ice, or it could become a problem. We recommend using an actual container as a liner, but if you do not have anything that is the right size, then a small garbage bag will do nicely. Just remember when you go to remove bottles that they may be slightly stuck to the bag.

Now we are off to figure out what to make from the Black Swan costume I wore this year, as it will not be as memorable next year.

Simply stepping outside into your garden area is not enough if you want your alfresco experience to be a rewarding one. This means that by methodically selecting the flowers you want growing nearest your outdoor living space is crucial. I have always appreciated the visual appeal and often fragrant essence of daffodils. Thus, they are frequently what I place along the border of my outdoor lounge and dinning spot.

Of those I have enjoyed the most, I can easily refer to the daffodil named “Jack Snipe”, or narcissus Jack Snipe. To the best of my knowledge they are named after the bird of the same name, but why is unclear to me. As they are commonly upwards of eight inches, and boast colours of white and yellow, or white and what some refer to as orange. And the bird is not painted in any of these tones, but is instead brown.

Anyway, I am partial to this type because it tends to bloom earlier than many others, renders many blooms, and is very perky. Mostly, I admire the swept back petals that allow me to see all of its dramatic features clearly. It is cheery, robust, and simply put, brings a smile to my face.

With Autumn approaching I start to think of how I would like to bring that change of season into my abode. Well, this year I am planning to use some of the gourds we grew in our vegetable patch as flower vases, and candleholders. And in some cases, after scooping out the seeds and pulp you can make a nice and healthy treat of cooked and flavoured seeds.

The colors are naturally accurate on pumpkins, and various squash, and provide ample housing for the larger sunflowers which I adore. Those towering sunflowers need a sturdy base, and the proper visual balance which the gourds provide. And since we can never eat, or give away all that we grow, it is a wonderful way to ensure they get used for good.

As for holding candles, the smaller squash can be hand picked for this purpose. What I like best is that I do not have to be concerned about candle wax getting stuck on them. No cleaning involved, but I am not entirely sure about composting them in that condition. If I am feeling particularly crafty I will carve out leaf patterns and make votives out of them.

Just talking about this makes me want to head out and start gathering the ones I want, but patience will be rewarded. As I am saving this as a project to complete with my grandkids when they come to visit next month. They are gonna just love this, as it will involve getting messy. In the meantime, I think I will start to look for pumpkin seed recipes.
